Jeju Island - Korea Trip Day 5!

Annyeong!

We opted to stay in Seogwipo City, the southern part of Jeju Island. Our room (based on booking.com) promised a view. Indeed it has a little view. A construction in on-going at time so there was a crane obstructing our view. We can see an island from our window. The hotel is not along the coast but was close enough to walk.

"Room with a view"
It's so easy to fall in love with Jeju Island. I like the laid back life there, but at the same time you don't feel any remoteness. That day we went to Jeju Folk Village, Seopjikoji, and Sunrise Peak (Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak). The hotel called a cab that we paid 120 USD (if my memory serves me right) for 8 hours. The driver don't speak English. Our communication was limited only to how long we can spend on that tourist spot. We really want to go see the lava tubes but they said that its very cold at that time. Bummer. We get into the cab, I really wish that I've remember our drivers name and the first guy that helped us in Seoul. But I was to excited to remember things at that time or ever.. haha!

First stop is Jeju Folk Village. Honestly I want to skip this place because I kinda get a glimpse of those houses in Seoul. But since we can't go to the lava tubes, we decided to go there instead. One good thing about going there was there's a few people there. Or perhaps we are early. Again if you've seen a lot of sageuk, it will be fun to see those houses in real life! As you read through the different captions, you'll get educated on how people in Jeju island lived on those days.

One thing I can't forget about Jeju Folk Village is the ostrich. I think its the first time that I saw an ostrich. Souvenirs are pretty cheap there so don't forget to grab a few for your friends. I bought  the phallic statue miniatures holding tangerines key chains 10,000 KRW for 5 key chains.
Annyeong ostrich!

We also went to All In House in Seopjikoji . I've not seen that drama but since its on the way, we dropped by. The view is great. Imagine a lone big house on a rocky coastline with a lighthouse! Its so DRA.MA.TIC. We didn't walk all the way to the lighthouse. One thing that annoyed me really on this trip was the presence of too many tourist. I mean they come in buses. Its so hard to take pictures.
uhhhhmmm key
can't relate... didn't see this drama
some photography... hahaha!
driving through Jeju-do's coastline... relaxing
Seongsan Ilchulbong behind Odie!
Next stop is Seongsan Ilchulbong. Its also called the Sunrise Peak, well I simply can't go there to catch the sunrise. Anyway its a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When we are picking of places to go at Jeju Island, I thought that a vehicle can go up there. hehehe. I can't recall how long did we climb the top, but the our driver just gave us 2 hours I guess. We climbed a staggering (well at least for me) 180 meters.  Good thing that I spent some time on the gym before this tour so I endured that climb. The view from the peak is awesome. I don't know how many panoramic pictures I took. I didn't see anything on the top of the cone except grass. We bought T-shirts and candies for souvenirs.

That is what I will climb?
Nice isn't it? My tiredness was lessen by half
pit stop photo op
I have to shove some tourists to have this picture taken.
grass... grass... and more grass
And we had our lunch (late)! We had samgyeopsal. We are planning to have that meat from black pigs but its so expensive that we just settled for the regular ones. After that we head back to our hotel. We were so tired that we passed out inside the cab. We were supposed to go to a crater but because we are so full from our lunch and tired from all that climbing, we told the driver that we will skip it and go home (hotel) instead. We stopped to buy some tangerine and I bought 1 box for 30,000 KRW. Its so tasty and juicy! I bought the Hallabong variety. There are some orange trees with fake fruits for photo op purposes. It looks real that we argued about it and the driver told us that indeed its fake. Its funny how he picked up what we are arguing about. I saw some windmills on the way to the hotel (when my eyes tried to open and fight sleep.. hehe). I don't know what we had for dinner. All I remember is that we are dead tired and spent the rest of the day inside the hotel.
